Effect of Lap Length and Stiffness of Peel-Stop Fasteners in Single Lap Joints

نویسندگان

چکیده

Strength tests on single lap joints with one adhesive (AV138/HV998) and layer thickness (0.5 mm), three peel stoppers (brass bolt, nylon bolt steel pin), four lengths (12.5 mm, 25 40 mm 100 mm) were conducted to investigate the effects of varying length stiffness peel-stop fasteners. Joint failure stress decreased, but force increased length. Furthermore, joint was higher stopper. The effect brass-bolt significant, whereas bolts pins smaller than that brass bolts. This indicates axial clamp strength stopper are important factors in shear lap. In addition, negligible for 12.5 reason is case large thus comparatively small. Moreover, reached adherent material’s strength.

Analytical Solution of Stress Field in Adhesively Bonded Composite Single-Lap Joints Under Mechanical Loadings

In this paper, considering an adhesively bonded composite single-lap joint, a novel approach is presented to predict the peel and shear stress distributions of the adhesive layer for an ASTM standard test sample. In current method, the equilibrium equations are derived using the energy method and based on the Timoshenko’s beam theory. Two solution procedures then are discussed, one of which rep...

Three-dimensional modeling of carbon/epoxy to titanium single-lap joints with variable adhesive recess length

The objective of this paper was to investigate the performance of recessed single-lap joints with dissimilar adherends through the finite element method. The influence of material and geometric nonlinearity of the adhesive as well as the impact of the recess length was examined in terms of maximum principal stresses. The strength of the joint was obtained as the load to initiate the crack propa...

Fatigue behaviour of composite adhesive lap joints

This paper is concerned with a fatigue study of composite adhesive lap joints produced from a bi-directional woven E-glass fibres and polypropylene. The adhesive used was a Bostik 7452 (Rubber & Plastics Grade) ethyl cyanoacrylate type. The effects of layer orientation, lap joint length and water immersion on the fatigue behaviour were studied. The specimens were immersed in water during period...

Semi Analytical Transient Dynamic Analysis of Composite Adhesive Single-lap Joints

A novel semi analytical method is developed for transient analysis of single-lap adhesive joints with laminated composite adherends subjected to dynamical loads. The presented approach has the capability of choosing arbitrary loadings and boundary conditions. In this model, adherends are assumed to be orthotropic plates that pursuant to the classical lamination theory. Stacking sequences can be...

Propagation of ultrasonic Lamb waves in adhesively bonded lap joints

This paper considers the bonded joint as a multilayer structure that is analysed using the Transfer Matrix method. In this particular case three layers (two adherents and the adhesive) are considered. The study of this propagation problem may be developed from matrix formulations which describe elastic waves in layered media. This technique combines the theory of the dynamics of the continuum w...
